This oreum(small extinct volcano) is on the southeast side of Gonae-ri. Gonae-bong is not too tall to hike. However, because the oreum is tall enough to cover Halla-san(mountain), Gonae-ri became one of the very few villages without view of Halla-san in Jeju. It takes about 20 minutes to hike to the top. There are workout facilities near the top, used by Gonae-ri residents. It is awe-inspiring to do a light exercise with the open view of Halla-san. It is impossible to see Halla-san the village because of Gonae-bong(peak), but, at the same time, Gonae-bong(peak) itself turned out to be the most attractive gym in the world. The name Gonae-bong(peak) is after the name of the village. Other names include Goni Oreum or Gono Oreum.
The lava Nokome Oreum is said to form Aewol Gotjawal and flowed into the sub-tropical forest of Napeup. It is an evergreen forest, not usually found on the plain. The vegetation is relatively simple but very high in academic value. It is designated as Natural Monument #375.
There is a traditional house in the middle of Geumsan Park. It is the altar where the village holds rituals. Nabeup Village was founded nearly 600 years ago. Still, its fengsui was not too favorable, warning the village would burn down in a fire, so, the villagers planted trees and built the altar. There are three altars, Seoshin-dan(against measles) and Toshin-dan(guardian) to the north and Poshin-dan(against human-made disasters) on the right. All of the stone tables are made with basalt.
